Can we just use toll roads to solve our road funding problem in Michigan?

With the introduction of this vital legislation, Michigan has moved one step closer to saving money and saving lives. The time to fix our roads is now, and Senate Bills 84, 85, 86, 87, 88 and Senate Joint Resolution J offer multiple solutions to do just that.

Yesterday’s announcement of a proposed package of road funding bills has spurred news discussions across the state. Here are just a few samples.

The Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) today thanked leaders in the Senate, specifically Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, (R- Monroe), Sen. Roger Kahn (R-Saginaw Township) and Sen. John Pappageorge (R-Troy) for introducing legislation in parallel with Governor Snyder’s state of the state address that will provide much needed increased transportation funding.

Bills introduced today in the state Senate offer proposed solutions to the state’s infrastructure funding crisis.

The Detroit News reports today: potholes have arrived, which can cause costly car repairs. Potholes are more common in the early spring, and are often signs of aging roads in need of additional funding for repairs.

It’s going to be expensive to fix Michigan’s roads, but doing nothing carries a heavy price, as well. The state simply cannot afford a legislative roadblock on this issue.

Michigan Chamber: “The governor has put forth a reasonable proposal: save time, save money, save lives, and create 11,000 new jobs for Michigan residents.”

“I have worked locally for many years on our transportation systems, and I am very concerned about the lack of revenue supporting our transportation infrastructure,” she said.
