Road funding gets a closer look by the Legislature.

The Detroit News favors using the surplus state cash for road repairs.

Manufacturers and growers depend on a quality transportation system to get their products to market, and one-third of Michigan’s roads are already crumbling in poor condition.

Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposed $4.6 billion transportation budget is being lauded by West Michigan groups.

It’s going to be expensive to fix Michigan’s roads, but doing nothing carries a heavy price, as well. The state simply cannot afford a legislative roadblock on this issue.

Mark Schauer: “There will be 11,000 jobs created by making an investment in our roads, bridges, transit and infrastructure.”

“We want to do a good job and not kick this can down the road to a future generation so we’re going to have to start dealing with it now,” he said.

When it comes to Michigan roads, we are in a crisis situation. Investment in our infrastructure needs to be made sooner rather than later. Better roads are safer roads!

“Investing in Michigan’s roads and bridges is just sound economic policy. It is going to be rough keeping the economy of the U.P. afloat if people are afraid to drive that far and cross a bridge due to poor maintenance.” MAC Board Member Jerry Doucette, Alger County

Wyoming City Manager: “It is far past time to find a solution to this out of control issue. Let’s find the funding and let’s fix our roads.”
