People across Michigan are speaking out in support of investing to finally fix Michigan’s roads, which would save money and save lives.

If lawmakers know of additional ways to free up money, they should put them on the table and pass them without delay. Then they should add muscle to the road repair program through the governor’s proposals or their own. And Snyder should stand ready to help them get it done.

The state that put the world on wheels seems determined that its residents will drive on pothole-filled surfaces. The Legislature has kicked this can down the road far too many times.

Looking ahead, additional road repair funding has to be a major priority when the 97th Legislature convenes a new two-year session in January.

This is no time for half solutions. Michigan got here because past Legislatures chose to leave roads in disrepair. That has to stop.
