Michigan Roads and Bridges: Annual Report 2013
2013 Asset Management Annual Mini Report WEB (2)
This report, which as of February 2015 is the most recent report available, shows that the 2013 condition assessment of Michigan’s federal-aid eligible roads continues to indicate that one out of every three miles of road in Michigan remain rated in “poor” condition. While the good/fair/poor pavement condition trends have plateaued in recent years, there is sufficient evidence to suggest the system is in no way improving. In fact, condition forecasts continue to show that the system will continue to deteriorate in the future.
With respect to Michigan’s bridges, progress has also plateaued in reducing the number of structurally deficient bridges under state jurisdiction. However more local agencies are implementing preventive maintenance “mix of fixes” on local bridges. An analysis of bridge conditions in Michigan shows that state and local bridge owners and decision makers are “holding their own” despite rising costs and revenue challenges.
